Sugar Glider Protein Supplement

This sugar glider protein supplement was originally developed for captive flying foxes. However, it is now used extensively by animal caregivers and keepers as a sugar glider protein supplement, in addition to adding to the diet of many other small fruit and nectar eating animals.

The sources of protein in this supplement are soy protein isolate and whey protein isolates with high lactalbumin content. Together these ingredients produce a protein mix with an excellent amino acid composition. The supplement is fortified with vitamins, minerals and the essential fatty acids a-linolenic acid, EPA and DHA. Product palatability and protein quality make it a useful food additive to boost the protein level in the diet of debilitated animals.

A Sugar Glider protein requirement is relative to the amount of energy expended through activity. This is, of course true for all species therefore when using a protein supplement it is important to make sure that the animals are active enough to fully utilise the added protein or it will result in weight gain. The amount of supplement you will need to add will depend on the protein content in terms of both quantity and quality, in the existing diet and the animal size and species.

Normal intake for a Sugar Glider would be to use two heaped teaspoons of Sugar Glider Protein supplement over 300g of fresh fruit and feed this quantity to each adult animal. Increase the amount of supplement to 4 heaped teaspoons when feeding pregnant or nursing females and juveniles. Of course the amount will vary from species to species.

When Hedgehog Booster is Needed

Avi-plus Special Lorikeet Nectar is best for feeding the Charmosyna and Chalcopsitta families of Lorikeets on a continuous basis and is suitable for breeding and rearing the Charmosyna family of Lorikeets. (Stellas, Red-Flanked, Fairy, etc.)

Instructions for Feeding Avi-Plus to Lorikeets

The Avi-Plus Special Lorikeet formula is very concentrated; we therefore recommend you mix the following amounts: one measure of the dry formula to five measures of water. This is best done by adding two measures of water to one measure of formula and mixing it into a paste and then mixing in the other three parts of the water.

Suitable soft fruits such as apples, bananas, pears (not avocado) and others can be liquidised and added to the Avi-plus liquid formula or fed whole separately. In hot weather it is better to feed fruit separately as the bird will also get moisture from the fruit.

When feeding breeding birds it has been found that Avi-Plus Special Lorikeet should be used in conjunction with Avi-Plus Parrot/Parakeet for species other than Charmosyna. The Avi-Plus Parrot/Parakeet should be saturated with the made-up Special Lorikeet Nectar. You can also use the Vetark Critical Care Formula to help with parental nutrition

Chopped fruit and vegetables are then added to this mix which can then be fed separately from the pure nectar and water mix; different species of Lorikeet have very different protein requirements and this method allows the parents to regulate their protein intake.
